Not every dinner is about the food, sometimes it’s about the company and sometimes it’s about the atmosphere. For Animator’s Palate on the Disney Fantasy, the new “Animation Magic” is what draws the crowd, the food is a secondary perk to the amazing transformation that takes place during this meal.
We experienced “Animation Magic” which is new to the Disney Fantasy. As a guest, when you arrive you are given a placemat and a black marker. The placemat has an outline of a person, you draw within the blue lines and illustrate yourself however you like, then you write your name and the placemats are then collected by the wait staff.
I am a great many things but an artist is not one of them. I am only showing my drawing for informational purposes to show you how magical “Animation Magic” is.
Mickey pops in during the meal to remind you that he’s working on a special surprise.
Unlike Animator’s Palate on the other ships, which displays changing artwork, there are movie clips played on the screens while you wait for your illustration to come to life. The audio clips from Disney Classics, and newer Pixar films as well, leaves you singing in your chair and remembering fondly the Disney movies of past and present.
The next time Mickey appears, he tells you that the surprise is ready and your animations come to life. In the picture below you can see how the (not very good) illustration I drew came to life on the left hand side of the screen. Clearly I forgot to outline her skull, so it’s just a random face floating in space, with cute shoes on her feet. So at least I had my priorities straight!
This was a really amazing sight to behold and everyone in the restaurant loved it. This was by far the most exciting meal I’ve had in a long time!
At the end of the meal your name is added to the list of animators and your drawing is returned to you with an official seal of an animator. I’m not sure that I’m an official animator, but Animator’s Palate definitely has my seal of approval!
